zeterre was founded with a focus on creating unique outdoor ambiance and innovative design for exclusive homes. Each garden that Zeterre creates is an expression of the owner, the architecture and the interiors of the building. Our goal is to make all of these important elements flow together seamlessly with the garden.
We invite you to explore our diverse portfolio and testimonials. Our work and very happy clients truly speak for themselves. If you would like further detail as to who we are, and how we can help you with your project, please contact our office to schedule a consultation.
Zeterre was retained to remodel the existing landscape of this hillside residence in order to create an outdoor environ that compliments the existing contemporary main house and feeds the client’s desire to be surrounded by original and innovative art. After nearly two years of construction, this project was named by California Landscape Contractors Association to be the best landscape installed in the entire state for all projects (commercial or residential) for 2010 via the Stuart Sberper Sweepstakes Trophy Award given on November 12, 2010.
zeterre maintains a uniquely small firm that allows it to focus great attention on each and every project. We pride ourselves on the attention that we can give to our clients and believe that this attention to detail is what makes our projects stand out from the rest.
Jarrod Ryan Baumann, ASLA
Licensed Landscape Architect,
California License # 5613
Owner of Zeterre Landscape Architecture
Jarrod Baumann spent his childhood years on his family’s 800 acre ranch in the oak studded foothills below Yosemite -riding horses and studying California native plants in their natural habitat. Born to a family submerged in real estate development, he found himself a pre-teen reviewing the plans of the architects contracted with his Grandfather and soon “redlining” their work. It was quite natural that his love for plants along with his appreciation of structures and successful spaces would lead him to the field of Landscape Architecture. While completing his degree in Landscape Architecture at Cal Poly Pomona, he soaked in inspiration and ideas from his professors which included the renowned Andy Cao and Takeo Uesugi - all the while working full time for one of the largest landscape architecture firms in greater L.A.
After 7 years in Southern California it was time for Jarrod to head back to Northern California where he could design estate gardens in one of the best climates in the world. After a 3 year interim working under the tutelage of landscape architect Paul J. Reed, it became time for Jarrod to start his own firm – Zeterre Landscape Architecture. Since the opening of Zeterre in 2007 Jarrod has been fortunate to work with many breath-taking sites, creative artists and amazing clients.
His work has also allowed him the opportunity to travel throughout Italy, Greece, Turkey, the United Kingdom and France studying gardens and concepts that he utilizes in his landscape architectural designs, his paintings, his sculpture, as well as his new line of garden furnishings.

Garrett Paul - Irrigation Designer
While Garrett's degree is in Architecture, his path and passion has pushed him into the field of Landscape Architecture. His experience in urban park development, multi family residential and large estate gardens throughout California has been an asset to our company for the past 5 years. As a Toro certified irrigation designer, he focuses much of his attention designing water conserving irrigation systems for our estate gardens.
Andrew Witschonke, ASLA Project Manager/Designer

Zeterre – Inspired by Venice, Italy. Zaterre on the Giudecca in Venice dates back to the 1500's and is one of the earliest examples of "forward thinking" landscape architecture - it perfectly compliments the architectural facades and reflective canal. This promenade has remained nearly untouched and unrevised and yet draws thousands due to its ambiance and sense of place - "Genius loci." Those who know Venice love Zaterre.
Our goal for Zeterre Landscape Architecture is to create designs like Zaterre on the Giudecca that stand the test of time and truly stand out with unforgettable brilliance, undeniable beauty and uniqueness.
This large estate located in the rolling foothills around Saratoga was an ideal place to develop a classic design with innovative additions to create an ideal equestrian estate. Comfortable paths allow for easy horse-back access to every part of the property, including the covered riding arena, stables, and lake. As a special touch, we included hitching posts off the front of the house under the shade of beautiful Coast Live Oaks to allow for quick access to and from the house while enjoying this beautiful property on horseback. To get a better feel for the design, check out our 3D fly-through animation.
This beautiful estate, situated just off the Pebble Beach golf course and with stunning views of Point Lobos, has its design inspired by ornate French gardens such as Versailles and Vaux le Vicompte. Powerful axises draw your eye down from the sweeping veranda into the yard and out towards the beautiful view of the Pacific Ocean and the famous Point Lobos. To help our clients beter understandthe design intent, we provided two conceptual animations of possible designs.
